Ya-Ju Shih was born in the Taipei County, Taiwan, in 1971. She earned her master's degree in Art (Magistra Der Kunste) from the Austria National Vienna Institute of Music and Performing Art (Hochschule Fur Musik Und Darstellende Kunst In Wien). She apprenticed herself with Prof. Babara Muller-Hasse and Prof. Janos Balint.
She frequently performed in chamber orchestra, music band and flute solo in Europe. She also taught in the Austria Herzogenburg Music Institution during her stay in Austria.
In 1998, She was honored the Austria International Chamber Music Celebration Winning Prize and Austria National Broadcast Grand Award (ORF). Afterwards, she received the invitation from the ORF Broadcasting Station to transcribe her personal music program. She attained high praise when she first performed the new piece "Wang Chao-Chuen" composed by the renowned Taiwanese composer, Hong Chien-Hui.
Ya-Ju Shih is now teaching in the Taiwan National Hsin-Chu Teachers College. Other than performing, she has also been hosting many musical activities such as masterclass (Masterklasse) and flute contest.
